Reviews for Dozo Cantara Retail, Ara Damansara
Review highlights
Based on 576 reviewsDozo Cantara Retail in Ara Damansara is widely praised for its fresh, high-quality Japanese cuisine, particularly its sashimi and sushi offerings. Customers consistently highlight the delicious flavors and variety on the menu, making it a favored spot for family and group dining. The restaurant’s cozy and welcoming atmosphere adds to the overall positive experience. However, while food quality and taste receive strong acclaim, service reviews are mixed; some patrons find staff attentive and friendly, whereas others note slower service during busy periods. Despite occasional service challenges, the consistent food excellence and pleasant ambiance contribute to Dozo Cantara’s favorable reputation among diners in the area.
Having visited the Bayan Baru branch in Penang a few times, I was curious to see how this outpost on the fringes of PJ would measure up — particularly when it came to consistency and quality control. I’m happy to report that our experience at Cantara was thoroughly satisfying. The menu mirrors that of the other branches, and the interior design echoes the same warm, familiar aesthetic — a seamless continuation of the brand’s signature charm. When it comes to food, the sets offer the best value — but more than that, they invite you to explore a harmonious medley of flavors. The bento I ordered arrived like a quiet piece of art: visually elegant, thoughtfully arranged. The sashimi was pristine — fresh, precisely cut, and of excellent quality — resting delicately on a bed of shaved ice, a subtle nod to refinement. The Saba Shioyaki was a standout: beautifully grilled, its firm, flaky flesh rich with umami and kissed by smoke. The salad brought a welcome brightness, crisp and clean with a dressing that stepped beyond the ordinary. Chawanmushi followed — silky, just-set, and gently savory, a small triumph of timing. For dessert, a small cube of tofu, impossibly smooth and topped with a whisper of brown sugar, brought the meal to a graceful close. Everything was well-executed, quietly confident. No complaints — only quiet appreciation.
Surprised by the quality of the food here, well deserved 5-star for the food and the food alone. Service leaves a lot to be desired. For a place with such an expensive menu, they are quite lacking in terms of staff. They seem very stretched. Staff were busy running around taking orders, serving orders etc. Tea refills were slow to come by and tables weren't cleared very often especially with the number of things we were ordering. Can definitely improve on that. I enjoyed most of the dishes here. Sashimi was fresh, sushi was very well put together. Egg for the tsukune is usually served raw but the one here seems half cooked - nothing bad just interesting. Overall pleasant, can see myself coming back here.
Nice place to enjoy Japanese food here with family. They have many choice and variety of dishes and their food quality is good, taste delicious, their sashimi is so fresh. Good service from staff and serving is fast too. Overall we enjoy our dining here.
Sashimi is very fresh. Food is nice. We are lucky we get a table of 5 during lunch time or weekday. Definitely will revisit
My personal experience at DOZO was top-notch! The food is absolutely delicious, and the waitresses are very friendly and attentive. I really love their service, it makes the whole dining experience so enjoyable. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, which makes it a perfect place to dine with family and friends. I’ll definitely come back again!
Really nice Japanese restaurant located at the Cantara Retail lane connected to the residences. Parking available on site. Restaurant is spacious with nice decor and ambience. Service is friendly. Very fresh ingredients with great presentation of the dishes from the sushi to the soba. Advisable to make a reservation on peak days such as fridays and weekends. Booking of tables can be done via their google listing.
Dozo is the Japanese restaurant that gets me the most compliments! The food is excellent and the environment is great! My favorites are the salmon sashimi and the Mentai fried noodles! I always bring my friends and family here to enjoy Japanese cuisine, and I’ll definitely come back again
Usually reservation is required to avoid long waiting time. It’s good place for family outings or even with friends. Price is reasonable and restaurant place is big and cozy. Serving time also relatively fast in 5min we got our first tempura unagi set. Subsequent serving in less than 10 minutes. Unagi don is a must try. Hana maki and Inari also very fresh. Will definitely come again.
